Delta expands WiFi access to select regional jets
Good news, frequent (and not so frequent) fliers. In addition to offering free Goggle-sponsored WiFi on its long-range flights this holiday season, Delta has announced plans to expand Gogo internet access to many of its regional jets, beginning in January. The company says that it should have this next wave of upgrades done by the end of 2011. This will definitely come as a relief to those of us who will be enjoying hours-long "regional" flights in the new year, either on Delta planes or those
Report: In-app purchases to overtake download revenues by 2013
Here's an interesting report from Juniper Research. According to their work, mobile app revenues will reportedly grow from the current US $ 6 billion to a whopping $ 11 billion by 2015. And the majority of that revenue will come not from the standard download fee, but instead from in-app purchases, according to Juniper. The firm claims that in-app purchase revenue will top one-off download fees by 2013. That seems hard to believe, given my current anecdotal usage, but there's no question
I Hope This Gets To You: A Viral Love Letter [Video]
Stop whatever you're doing right now, watch this video, and send it to your friends. Actually, you don't even have to watch the video—though it's amazing—you just need to pass it on. Here's why.
The video was put together by a guy named Walter C. May and his roommates—who happen to be in a band called The Daylights. It was posted on YouTube yesterday and has since then been tweeted about by May's friends, random strangers, and even Katy Perry.

LG Star struts its stuff on film, toys with an iPhone 4 (video)
We can't get enough of the world's first Tegra 2 smartphone, the LG Star, so if the 4-inch diva wants a closeup while parading about Tel Aviv, who are we to argue? GSM Israel somehow managed to obtain the same dual-core Android 2.2 handset we glimpsed earlier this afternoon, complete with 8 megapixel camera and HDMI port. Though we don't have the foggiest idea what they're saying in the video after the break, the LG-P990 certainly seems to be a speedy little machine in side-by-side webpage
The Secrets Behind Popular Circus Acts [Video]
While we don't recommend running into your backyard and trying to recreate silly circus routines on your own, it's still fascinating to know the basic methods behind the tricks. So here are the "secrets" behind some popular circus acts.

Richard Branson's 'Project' iPad magazine now hitting European iTunes stores
He just had to beat Rupert Murdoch, didn't he? Project, Richard Branson's iPad magazine, is now available in the iTunes store -- at least in Italy and the United Kingdom, since it's past midnight there. App is free, cost per issue is $ 2.99 for "a full month's worth of updating content." We suspect it'll hit US, too, the next few hours, but for now, those across the pond can read up on Jeff Bridges (audio and video interview), Earth 2.0, and a "well-informed Godzilla." Take that,

Publisher: Apple Banned My Android Mag App
Apple banned an iPhone magazine app because it contained content related to using Android phones, according to the app’s creator.
Apple refused to approve the magazine Android Magasinet, a publication about Google’s Android OS, according to Brian Dixen, managing editor of Danish magazine publisher Mediaprovider.

Comcast internet down across parts of the eastern seaboard, fix on the way
Twitter's abuzz with angry Comcast customers tonight, as internet service is down in Boston and parts of the eastern United States, a situation the company's since confirmed at its official Twitter account. Comcast's calling it an unexpected outage and says that "engineers are finalizing the correction" as we speak, though it's admittedly been a couple of hours since that tweet. Meanwhile, Twitter at large seems to have figured out it's a Comcast DNS issue, and have had some luck switching to

iPhone photographers, get your Glif on with new tripod mount
It's a local-boys-make-good story for the Internet age: two New Yorkers brainstorm an idea for the kind of iPhone 4 tripod mount/stand they'd want to buy. They put their design on Kickstarter with the intention of raising US$ 10,000 in ramp-up funding. With a snazzy prototype video and the attention of some traditional and not-so-traditional media outlets, they missed their funding estimate by more than 10x -- in the positive direction.

iOS 4.2 makes iPad a productivity rival for MacBook Air, says CNET
CNET's Brook Crothers claims that with the launch of iOS 4.2, he is pretty much ready to abandon his MacBook Air in favor of full-time use of his iPad. Even before the upgrade to the mobile OS, Crothers found that he was almost exclusively using the 3G tablet in the airport, hotel and plane for his various tasks.
With the new functionality in 4.2 including multitasking, folders and printing he expects that trend to be amplified. The key to Crothers' argument is what he calls the iPad's

Lost in translation: Microsoft retail stores not matching Apple success?
In a pattern we've seen repeated numerous times over the years, copying the superficial look and feel of something often does not yield the same end result. Over the years, Microsoft has frequently taken inspiration from the work of Apple, including Windows, Zune and, of course, its new retail stores. The record of commercial success for Redmond has been decidedly mixed, with Windows obviously being huge and the Zune a dismal failure.

Apple set to have a great holiday season, says Changewave
The holiday shopping season kicked off in America with Black Friday today, and Apple should finish out the rest of 2010 with a bang. ChangeWave, a firm that covers consumer trends, has told Apple 2.0/Fortune Tech that one of its surveys has consumers leaping for laptops, specifically those made by Apple.
10 percent of respondents told the firm they plan to buy a laptop in the next 90 days, and of those, 36 percent say they're looking for a Mac. That's an 11 point jump since the last time

Acer's already confirmed that it's forthcoming 10.1-inch Windows 7 tablet will be AMD-powered, but it unfortunately didn't get any more specific on the matter than that. The last Switched On introduced the opportunity of the Kno tablet, which is in transiton from having a large hardware footprint to having a large customer footprint. Without question, the Kno hardware is an outlier, but could be simply a first salvo in a battle for digital textbooks that will take years to play out.

Each week our friends at Inhabitat recap the week's most interesting green developments and clean tech news for us -- it's the Week in Green.
It's been a monumental week for green transportation as team Inhabitat hit the Los Angeles Auto Show to scope out the hottest up-and-coming eco vehicles - including the winner of the 2011 Green Car of the Year award, the Chevy Volt! Palm webOS 'Enyo' framework paves the way for tablets and larger phones (video)
Don't expect HP's webOS 2.0 to be tied to an HVGA screen for long -- come "early 2011," the company will introduce a number of "really interesting new form factors," including tablets and phones. That was the message driven home at Palm's Developer Day this year, according to PreCentral's Dieter Bohn, and the software that's going to make that shift possible is a little something called Enyo. Picking up where Ares left off, Enyo is a Javascript app framework with native hardware acceleration

Former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik faces off against a robotic arm in a game of blitz chess
Robots and artificial intelligence are no stranger to chess, but it's not every day you get to witness an actual, fiery game of blitz chess between a World Champion and a robotic arm. Vladimir Kramnik, who was World Chess Champion from 2006 to 2007, seems to take the game pretty casually, but the robo-arm's quick, decisive moves feel just a little threatening to us. We get it, you're a robot, you don't have to go shouting it from the rooftops!Former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik faces off
Build an Analog Bandwidth Meter for Old School Network Monitoring [DIY]
If you're a fan of gauges and visual indicators this DIY project combines a vintage voltage meter with a modern microchip to create an eye-catching bandwidth monitor.

HTC phone with CDMA and WiMAX hits the FCC: the EVO Shift 4G, perhaps?
It's not every day that a new HTC phone with CDMA and WiMAX support swings through the FCC's labs -- so even though we don't really know what this is, we thought we'd better point it out. Odds are it'll be headed to Sprint considering the unique combination of technology, and the test report lists it as a "Smart Phone" -- Windows Phones from these guys usually say as much, so we're thinking this is probably Android. The elephant in the room would have to be the Knight / EVO Shift 4G we've been

Archos 101 now shipping, Android tablet game really heating up
We were really digging this 10-inch Android tablet when we spotted it back in August, and now it's shipping for a totally palatable $ 300 pricetag. It's powerful enough to play 720p video, has a 1024 x 600 screen, HDMI out, 802.11n WiFi and even a front facing camera. Plus there's even the somewhat comforting notion that this isn't Archos' first time to the Android tablet rodeo. Of course, the big drawback is the lack of Android Market, but there are always hacks to solve that, and Archos

Payback (And IPO) Time For GM As Chevy Volt Wins Industry Accolades
The 102-year-old car company General Motors (GM) is set to go public on Thursday after a government-forced bankruptcy and bailout in November 2008. The bailout cost taxpayers about $ 50 billion. Analysts estimate the stock price would need to hit $ 53 dollars before the government can recoup its investment. GM plans to sell about half-a-billion shares for $ 33 each in its IPO. The company’s overall valuation stands at $ 20.1 billion to $ 23.1 billion.

FingerPrint app for Mac enables AirPrint for the printers Apple left behind
Printing never "just works," does it? There always has to be some wrench thrown in. We were hoping Apple was about to solve some of that with AirPrint, but at the last minute it left out the Mac printer-sharing functionalities that were supposedly going to arrive with Mac OS X 10.6.5. That means as of right now the only way to do AirPrint with the yet-to-be-released iOS 4.2 is to buy one of those fancy new HP printers with the AirPrint-compatible ePrint functionality. We're guessing Apple is

Sure, Verizon has the lock on Gossip Girl product placement, but even the technological reality of CDMA must bow to plot development, and if that means Serena's Droid X sprouts a SIM card so Lil' J can steal it and surreptitiously swap in a new one, well, so be it. Of course, this clever plan assumes that Serena doesn't text or call anyone using her new SIM, but, you know, just go with it. Schmidt: Gingerbread Sooner, Chrome OS Later
Google CEO Eric Schmidt, talking at the Web 2.0 conference today, made a couple announcements regarding devices that you, reader, may be interested in hearing. After all, with Android poised to become the most populous mobile OS in the world, any major update is worth discussing.
Gingerbread, as they are calling Android version 2.3 (apparently not 3.0, said to be Honeycomb), was shown off on what appeared to be a Nexus S, which would make sense as the first phone to roll out with the update.

Why We Care About Apple And The Beatles
So chances are (though I don’t buy the semaphore thing) that tomorrow will bring an announcement from Apple that they’ve finally reached an agreement with Apple Records, or EMI, or Apple Corps, or somebody, and will now be offering the Beatles catalogue on iTunes. That’s nice, but why should we care?

Luxury Apps helps you spend too much on iOS apps
Back in the early days of the App Store, a developer released a $ 999 app called "I am rich" that did nothing more than display an image of a jewel. That app would have been more aptly titled "I have more money than brains," but I digress. If you believe in the philosophy that only the best, or more accurately, the most expensive will do it for you, developer Paul Masson has come your rescue. Masson has created Luxury Apps and Luxury Apps HD for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad respectively.

How ‘Super AMOLED’ Displays Work
Some tablets and smartphones ship with an AMOLED display. Newer ones are shipping with a “Super AMOLED” display. What so super about it, and what does all this alphabet soup even mean?
The short version is that a Super AMOLED touchscreen display integrates touch sensors with the glass surface panel, eliminating at least one layer of glass and with it, a layer of air. That’s what makes Super AMOLED super. Only Samsung makes it.

Rumor: Apple’s iOS Printing Crippled on Release
Apple’s next iOS software upgrade is supposed to introduce wireless printing to the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, but early reports suggest that the print feature won’t fully work as promised.
When Steve Jobs introduced AirPrint as a new feature in iOS 4.2, he said it would enable Apple’s mobile devices to print without needing to install drivers or additional software. He explained that AirPrint would work with printers shared on a network by a Mac or PC, or with HP printers

Apple exec posts, retracts enterprise information
We're not sure if this is good news or bad news for you Xserve enthusiasts, but given the furor over Apple discontinuing the server line, any news is probably worth hearing. Apple server product marketing manager Eric Zelenka reportedly posted a message on the Xsanity message boards saying that the Xserve announcement wouldn't "impact the future of Xsan or server software on Mac OS X." Seems like good news, right? Apple may not be selling the hardware, but they'll still be working on the

NSFW: Playing Hangman on Twitter
On the afternoon of Halloween, a New York based blogger spotted a group of kids lined up at the side of a road, throwing rocks and eggs at passing cars. After calling 911, he went home and searched for the kids on Facebook, adding them as “friends”. Sure enough, before long the tiny (alleged) thugs were boasting about their crimes in status updates, which the blogger shared with the world.

Kinect does hacker's bidding, but not for fortune or fame (video)
Yes, Microsoft's Kinect has already been cracked, as you'll see on video after the break -- the motion-sensing depth camera now nods its head on command and displays real-time accelerometer data on one lucky hacker's PC. We tracked down the son-of-a-gun who did it -- as it happens, the same NUI Group member who hacked the PlayStation Eye in 2008 -- and found to our disappointment that he doesn't necessarily intend to unleash his new exploit on the world. Track your favorite runners with the ING New York Marathon app
There are some people who regard the prospect of a 26 mile-long run across the bridges, avenues and streets of New York City's five boroughs with eager anticipation, who train diligently for months with single-minded focus to be able to say with well-deserved pride, "Yes, on November 6 2010, I completed the NYC Marathon."

First shoes, now diapers. Amazon is reportedly about to announce on Monday the acquisition of Quidsi, the New Jersey-based ecommerce company behind Diapers.com, Soap.com, and, most recently, BeautyBar.com. Fortune’s Dan Primack, who broke the story from a maternity ward in Boston where his daughter was just born (no joke), puts the price of the all-cash deal at $ 540 million. A year ago, Amazon bought online shoe retailer Zappos for $ 1.2 billion.

'Liberate' for the Zune HD unlocks hidden Windows CE potential
Sure, we just spent the last four or five years chiding Microsoft for its anachronistic Windows CE interface, a UI which was holding Windows Mobile back in a post-stylus world, but now that Windows Phone 7 is here we get to start feeling all nostalgic, right? Notably, the latest version adds an onscreen keyboard
